What is the 2G cellular network and its history
Do You Know What is 2G Cellular Network? How does this work, what are its important features? After 1G in Wireless Technology, 2G changed the entire work of mobile communication. Where there was only voice in 1G, there is also a data service with Voice in 2G. The main difference in 1G and 2G is that where the 2G network's signals are digital, where the radio signal analog is being used in 1G. This gives people the chance to fully use their cell phones. Together they found text encryption, data service such as SMS, picture message and MMS.
The phone conversation in 2G or second generation communication is completely digitally encrypted. This makes communication more secure than 1G. 2G technology taught people to interact with their cell phones as well as use the internet. This left people calling their cell phones simply calling device and calling it a utility device. So today I thought that you should give people full information about what 2G Network is, so that you can know about the advancement of Mobile Technology. Then, without delay, let's start and know about 2G technology.
What is 2G Cellular Network -
Cell phones got the first major upgrade when it used to be technology upgraded from 1G to 2G. This technology was first used in Finland in GSM networks in 1991. This has resulted in a huge change in digital communication from phones to analogue communication.
Full form of 2G is Second Generation New features such as call and text encryption in 2G telephone technology, which include data services such as SMS, picture messages, and MMS. Believed that 2G replaced 1G, as if all the new technologies have come up with. But even after the arrival of 3G, 2G is still used in many countries.
There is a maximum speed of 2G, 50 Kbps in General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) The same
Enhanced Data Rates There is 1Mbps in GSM Evolution (EDGE). The main purpose of this generation is to provide secure and reliable communication channel. In both the concept
CDMA and GSM have been implemented. To achieve 2G capabilities, multiple users are allowed to single-channel by multiplexing.
The 2G speed is 50 Kbps and 1 Mbps with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) in Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE). Prior to moving from 2G to a 3G wireless network, that gap is accomplished with very little known technology 2.5G and 2.75G.
2G (First Generation) History-
Second generation 2G cellular telecom networks has been commercially launched in the GSM standard, also in Finland's Radiolinja (which is still part of Elisa Oyj) in 1991.
Features of 2G Technology-
Now let us discuss about the important features of 2G Technology.
Phone conversations are digitally encrypted in Second generation communications. This increases its security considerably.
2G GSM Technology Works in many different frequency bands 900/1800.
Digital Modulation was introduced for the first time.
Its data rate up to 9.6 Kbps.
In Voice calls, noise-free is due to digital modulation.
In the 900 uplink, the frequency ranges from mobile to BTS is 890-915 MHz and in the downlink, which is the frequency range 935-960 MHz from BTS to mobile.
Two types of multi access are used in 2G, TDMA Based GSM technology and CDMA based IS95 technology.
In GSM, different types of carriers of frequency 200 KHz are used, where 900 frequency band uses 124 carriers, and 1800 frequency band uses 373 carriers.
First of all, the beginning of the data service was in the form of SMS and later the GPRS was introduced.
Up to 61 users in CDMA technology can communicate very easily simultaneously.
CDMA also has 20 MHz bandwidth in 800 bands and 1900 band.
This technology does not support multimedia services.
Examples are GSM and CDMA.
Technologies used in 2G-
In fact, there is no network by speaking 1G technology, that is to say that communication technology has increased since 2G. There were so many features included that you could not find in 1G. 2G network is a very successful network that was quite popular from 1980 to 2003. There were some such advancements in 2G that made it very popular in its spectrum. It has GSM, GPRS and EDGE heads.
1. GSM: Its full form is Global Systems for Mobile Communication. In this, data transfer is also enabled with voice communication. Its speed is 30-35 kbps. It has played a very critical role in the evolution of mobile technology.
2. GPRS: Its full form is General Packet Radio Service. It also works similar to a 2G technology such as GSM, but with some refinements it increases its data speed (110 Kbps).
3. EDGE: Its full form is Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution It was introduced in 2003 and used in 2.9G or 3G. It is quite advanced technology from both GPRS and GSM. In addition, these high speeds that up to 135 kbps are available and in many countries still used in mobile networks.
What was the limit of 2G?
If I talk about the limitations of 2G, then its next technology is a bit less useful than 3G. Let's know about this.
2G needs strong digital signals to work properly. And if the network coverage is not good then it is not possible to use 2G.
The dedicated channel is alloted in the ongoing voice call.
Due to the low of the network, inconvenience like call drop arises.
These networks are unable to handle complex data such as videos.
Its signals are easily interfrered from some electronics gadgets such as audio amplifier.
2G is no longer more compatible with smartphones functions.
The 2G network's upload and download speed is much lower than the 3G network.
It can not handle Data and Vidoe communication.
2.5G and 2.75G of Technology:
Prior to completing that gap before going into 2G to 3G, interim standards like very less known technologies 2.5G and 2.75G were used to complete this gap, which could meet this gap of data transmission.
A new packet-switching technique was introduced in 2.5G which was more efficient than 2G technology. Two years later, 2.75G was brought, which provided a theoretical threefold speed increase. AT & T was the first GSM network to accept 2.75G with EDGE in the US.
2.5G and 2.75G are not considered according to the standardized wireless standards. They are mostly publicized in the new cell phone features promoted by a marketing tool in front of the public, in which the general public is more attracted.
As we all know, once every 10 years, new mobile technology is born which is an upgraded version of technology that was earlier. In this way, 3G was born after 10 years of 2G, and about which we will learn in another article.
